But everyone is different i guess - I will always name them, but sometimes i get stuck for names when they have babies, sometimes the babies will grow up to adults before i can think of a good name

Sometimes I name my animals; however, I always sign their date of birth. I sign even if they were born in captivity.

That's a good idea, to keep track of their date of birth. You could give them a name, and then a code or number of some kind that shows date of birth, bloodline, if you plan to release or keep the animal, etc. Though I usually keep a notebook next to my computer if I need to do any record-keeping with my zoos.
