I used it when I'm doing the campaigns & challenges (free animals are always nice). I would do the "flatten and sell", then place a lab and hire a few paleontologists to make it go quicker. Sometimes I would just let the paleontologists do all the work and go do something else while they were looking :P Playing in freeform, I don't really use it that much - but my nephew loves hunting for fossils and putting them together.
