In another part of the zoo is the old Elephant House. It has been years since the zoo actually had elephants, and the old building has been used over the years to house everything from elephants, to rhinos, to hippos, tapirs and a few other species. Today is houses pygmy hippos. The zoo is fortunate to have such a rare species, but the exhibit is very old and outdated. A few trees were planted a couple of years ago to provide some shade. But otherwise, they are very empty.

The zoo has received some money to update the exhibit. Here is the way the exhibit looks today. Will post some pictures soon as work begins on building a better home for the hippos and for the quests.

Indoors

Here in the outdoor yards you can see the trees have been removed and dug out. The old pools have been drained and excavated and the iron bar fencing has been removed.

In the old Elephant House, part of the roof and back wall have been removed. The holding cages and most of the old concrete flooring has been broken up and removed. More progress pictures soon.
