hey everyone, thought I would start showing a few of my zoo exhibits.

The first exhibit is for polar bears. I do not like Blue Fangs polar bears, but I was on a zoo's website where I saw there plans for a new polar bear exhibit and it was pretty cool. I thought I could build something similar.

Here is the layout of the exhibit.

The exhibit is supposed to represent a summer tundra habitat. There is a central plaza that connects all areas of the exhibit. There is also a central Tundra Lodge where quests can enter and view the bears up close through large veiwing windows. Guests can also view the exhibits over dry moats, or even see the bears underwater.

Pics coming soon !

Here is the main entrance where quests first enter the Tundra Plaza.

Here is an overview of the left side of the exhibit. Guests can see the bears over a dry moat. There is also a moat at the back of the exhibit, which lets guests see straight through to the woods on the other side of the exhibit, giving it a more open view. There is a small waterfall that feeds a rock filled stream. Plenty of room for the bears to roam.

And the right side of the exhibit, that eventually leads to the bears deep ocean tank. Snow making machines hidden in the rocks regularly blows man made snow out over the exhibit. This side of the exhibit represents a transition to a colder Artic habitat. Tall glacial cliffs form the back of this area.

Behind the exhibit is the zoos' off-exhibit polar bear holding facility and night dens.

The center building has the holding cages. To the right, is an off exhibit outdoor yard, so that any animal that might not be able to go on exhibit, still has outdoor access. Even has its own pool. To the left of the building is a separate area for mother and cubs so that they can get the privacy they need when the cubs are first born.

The center building has skylights to let plenty of natural light into the building.

hmmm, good point mongoose. In the past I have always just used rock and snow in my polar bear exhibits, but I was trying to make like a summer tundra habitat. In real zoos, polar bear exhibits are usually just made of fake rock and concrete, but those kind of exhibits get really hot for the bears in summer. So some zoos have started making softer exhibits with grassy areas that are more comfortable for the bears. That's what I was trying to make here.

That is what the Detroit Zoo did with their Artic Ring of Life Exhibit. They have two polar bear exhibits side by side. One is bare rock and concrete that is supposed to be like the Artic. The other is a grassy tundra exhibit.

Here is a picture from the Detroit Zoo.

I don't have a problem with the foliage since most of it is outside the exhibit. Most of the foliage inside the exhibit is that arctic moss, which is like the arctic grass used by the detroit zoo.
